The 20-21st centuries brought the new opportunities to make experiments. The popularity the television gained attracted young generations to the field of art. Now the number of musicians is growing every day as the youth is fond of music very much. With the elimination of many prejudices the Chinese society has been always full of, new opportunities to make different experiments appeared, thus new waves appeared and the development of the music accelerated. The development of technology does not bring benefits to all the fields of media. Some fields became less popular, because other fields appeared. One field that simply could not benefit from this development is the newspaper industry. It is no need to say that the development of technology made newspapers and journals useless. How ever, China can be called an exception. Chinese people still consider newspapers and journals to be the main sources of information. There are five types of popular newspapers that people like very much: evening newspapers, business issues, weekly informative newspapers and law newspapers. Speaking about the evolution of newspapers since 1978, it is essential to mention that the newspapers and journals changed much, became bright and informative. The number of newspapers and journals has also increased. In 1980 there were 80 newspapers in the country and now their number increased to 2,200. The whole number of journals and newspapers in China now grew to many millions due to new economic opportunities, which allow to open private publishing houses. Now Chinese people do not want the government to control media too strictly. The government is implementing the full control only over the news. Nursing is a profession aims to provide medical assistance to individuals, families, community in their times of distress and illness. When I was a kid I thought of every wild profession to choose when I grow up. But as I grew up a lot of changes occurred and I had a severe accident and was hospitalized. At first it seemed that all was lost and I might never recover. The doctors would chat merrily with me to keep my hopes up but somehow I would not trust them. My nurse whom I came to realize during my stay at the hospital was a human but worked like a machine all day long. She would attend to several patients of every illness thinkable but would keep a happy face and seeing her work furiously around gave me strength and I decided to be like her and help people in their time of greatest need. Hospitals face a great shortage of nurses and this makes nurses to work long shifts. But I was not frig htened by the long shifts in fact it strengthened my decision and I studied to become a professional nurse in the future. â€Å"Ontario Nurses Association predicts a nationwide loss if 15000 nurses in the nest several years due to changes in system (Hiscott, 1998).† Although living in the US I read about the profession in other parts of the world too. A heart surgeon would not deal any patient that is not a heart patient. Similarly an orthopedic has no concern with a dental patient. A nurse on the other hand would deal all these patients with the restriction of knowledge. Because doctors cannot attend to a patient whose category is out of their knowledge. My intention to become a nurse strengthened. I read about the work and duties of a doctor. Media nowadays has made people more aware. I consulted all the knowledge I could obtain to choose my career as a nurse. Even though the relationship between a doctor and a patient seems transparent but it is not. â€Å"We physicians don’t tell everything to patients (Pauline W. Chen, 2012).† My desire to be a helpful human being was marred by reading this. I felt the passion in me would soon burn out if I kept secrets from my patients. The patients who would rely on me to help them escape their agony should know the truth. I talked about my d ecision with my family to enter the medical career and like everyone’s reaction, I was asked to become a doctor. But after a battle of arguments my family too acknowledged that a nurse is more helpful to the society than a doctor. Honestly when I heard of YLI and signed up to go I was thinking 'what am I getting myself into?' 'I can't believe I paid good money to go to a boring leadership camp. I won't learn anything that I don't already know.' I can't tell you how wrong I was with those initial thoughts. The more I think about it, the more I realize that during those 5 days I learned from some very special people how to become a great leader and a great person, and I was also taught an essential concept that I will use throughout my life: the Rotary Club 4- Way Test. Picture this: you are going into your sophomore or junior year of high school. You love soccer and it has been your favorite sport since you were a little kid. The fall season has just ended and you are at the final meeting of the season. Your coach calls you over; he wants to talk to you. He tells you that you need to start taking steroids. He says it will help out the team and it will help you get a starting spot on the varsity team. As he says this, there is an implicit meaning in his words that, if you do not agree, there won't be a place on the team for you next year. What should you do? What can you do? Do you go along with him, or tell him you won't do it? This is where your true character is revealed. It's times like these when the rotary club 4-way test comes in very handy. To use the 4-way test in this situation ask yourself, 'Is it truth?' In this case it is not truth because steroids are illegal. 'Is it fair to all concerned?' Taking steroids is definitely not fair. It is not fair to your other teammates trying out for the team and it is not fair to the teams you play because you have an unfair advantage. 'Is it beneficial to all?' No, it is not, because steroids can be harmful to you and to those who are close to you. 'Will it build goodwill and better friendships?' There is no way steroids will build better friendships. In fact, the side effects will do the opposite. They will hurt those around you.
